Unibet Review 2022: Bonus, Promotions, Withdrawal

In our Unibet sportsbook review, we’ll put this popular international betting site truly under the microscope. We’ll look at the company's licenses, the types of betting market on offer and the various bonuses and promotions available to players. We’ll consider every aspect of the online bookmaker, both positive and negative, to try and bring you as much detail as possible. So let’s not hang around any longer, it's time to shine a light on Unibet.

Reputation and Credibility (9/10)

Unibet was initially founded in London by Anders Ström, back in 1997. The company launched its first online betting site two years later, meaning that it now has well over 20 years worth of experience in the business.

Today, players from over 100 different countries place their bets with Unibet, which is just one brand under the Kindred Group umbrella. Platinum Gaming Limited, a registered company in Gibraltar, is another part of this wider group. The Unibet business operates under the licenses held by Platinum, which are as follows:

- UK Gambling Commission: license number 45322

- Gibraltar Gambling Commission: RGL 092

In addition to these sports betting licenses, Unibet is affiliated with several organisations which are committed to integrity in gaming. These include the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA), the European Betting and Gaming Association (EBGA) and the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC). All three bodies concern themselves with keeping corruption out of sports and betting, as well as various elements of social responsibility. This includes the protection of vulnerable players, such as problem gamblers and underage bettors.

Finally, the 17 million players who make use of the Unibet website are protected by 128-bit Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology. This helps protect your payment details and other personal data from falling into the hands of hackers.

Verdict: International betting operator with a big reputation

Unibet has licenses from two different regulators, including the UK Gambling Commision, one of the strictest around. Licensed to operate in over 100 territories, the sportsbook has a strong reputation for integrity. Unibet has consistently proven itself to be a trustworthy site at which to bet for more than two decades.

Welcome Bonus (6/10)

The headline amount of Unibet’s sports betting welcome bonus seems okay at first. The likes of Bet365 offer as much as €/£100 at the top end of the range, while other, smaller betting sites offer as little as €/£20. So the €/£40 available at Unibet seems about average for a sportsbook welcome bonus.

However, this comes in the form of a risk-free bet. In other words, when you place your first bet and it loses, the money is refunded to your account. So if your first bet with Unibet actually wins, you don’t get any kind of a bonus at all. That’s a little bit disappointing. On the bright side, Bwin has a similar offer and their risk free bet is only up to the value of €/£20. So as risk-free bets go, at least it’s generous.

In addition, your refunded bet comes in the form of a bonus, rather than real money. These bonus funds carry a 3x wagering requirement, meaning you cannot make a withdrawal until you’ve placed bets worth 3x whatever your bonus was, so that’s a maximum of £/€120. That feels a little bit harsh to us, since the welcome offer is advertised as risk-free, but in order to see any benefit, you do actually have to risk your own money.

It’s worth noting that, as part of the welcome package, you will also receive €/£10 worth of free play in the Unibet casino.

Verdict: Not the best welcome bonus on the market

The major downside to the Unibet welcome offer is that it’s only a risk-free bet. An expert in sports betting would expect to win a bet anyway, so it’s not much of an incentive to register. But as risk-free bonuses go, it is one of the bigger free bets that can be found among UK sportsbooks.

Ongoing Promotions and Offers (7/10)

Unibet’s ongoing promotions for existing customers are an improvement upon the welcome bonus. The majority of the promotions are built around enhanced odds offers, but the main attraction is the extremely generous refer a friend bonus.

If you successfully refer a friend who starts playing at Unibet, you’ll be paid £/€30. If you bring a second referral, there's an additional £/€50 up for grabs, followed by £/€70 for the third and final recommendation. That’s a possible total of £/€150 in free bet rewards, just for getting your mates to sign up!

Here’s a full rundown of the bonuses and promotions available at Unibet:

- Daily Odds Boosts. The Uniboost feature allows you to pick up to three selections a day, entirely of your choice, to increase the odds! Any sport, any market, except for virtual sports, horse racing and greyhounds.

- Horse Racing Boosts. Every day, selected horses and specific races are given increased odds. Watch out though, the boost only applies to your first bet in that race.

- Live Profit Boosts. Although this only applies to in-play tennis bets made using the Watch & Bet feature, any winning bets will receive an additional 5% on top, no strings attached.

- Refer A Friend. Bag yourself up to £150 in bonuses just for referring three of your friends to Unibet!

- Golden Goal Competition. Win up to £15,000 by correctly predicting both the first goal scorer and the exact time at which it was scored.

Verdict: A solid bonus offering from Unibet

There are definitely sports betting sites to be found with a wider range of bonuses for existing customers. But Unibet has enough to keep most sports betting fans interested, especially through their range of odds boost promotions. The refer a friend bonus is a particular highlight.

Deposit Options at Unibet (8/10)

There is a good choice of possible deposit options to be found at Unibet. Online bettors around the world have come to expect a minimum standard, in terms of payment methods. Debit cards are a must, followed by e-wallets like Neteller and PayPal, while good old fashioned bank transfers are still favoured by a certain type of player.

If a sportsbook offers anything more advanced than that, it’s really something of a bonus. So it’s good to see that Unibet allows players to fund their accounts with Apple Pay, which shows that they're staying ahead of the curve in some aspects of payment technologies. And although there are no cryptocurrency options on show, the deposit limits are low, which makes it very good for casual players.

The full range of payment methods available to use for depositing at Unibet, along with all of the associated fees and limits, can be seen in the below table.

Available Deposit Methods

Payment Option Minimum Deposit Maximum Deposit Processing Time Processing Fee
Debit Card
(Visa / Mastercard  Maestro)
£/€5 £/€10,000 Instant None
PayPal £/€10 £/€10,000 Instant None
Skrill £/€5 £/€10,000 Instant None
Neteller £/€5 £/€10,000 Instant None
PaySafeCard £/€10 £/€800 Instant None
Bank Transfer Unlimited Unlimited 1 - 3 days None
Apple Pay £/€5 £/€10,000 Instant None
Trustly £/€10 £/€1,000 Instant None

Verdict: An excellent mixture of deposit methods, with fair limits

We were really pleased to see minimum deposit limits as low as £/€5, showing that Unibet is happy to allow small stakes, casual punters to get involved. It was also encouraging to see Apple Pay featured, indicating that Unibet is keeping an eye on developments in the world of financial technology, as well as ensuring that the more traditional methods are covered.

User Interface and Experience (7/10)

Unibet’s green and white colour scheme is not exactly unique in the sports betting world, but the site’s designers have at least managed to make it look different to the likes of Bet365 and Paddy Power. In fact, the overall look and feel of the site is nice and clean, and things are easy to find.

The same can also be said of the mobile betting site, which is equally well designed, as well as the sports betting mobile app. Unibet actually offers three distinct native apps, for their casino, poker and sports betting apps. The Unibet sportsbook app is available for both iOS and Android.

In terms of regionalisation, the options are limited. You can change the language away from English to one of three other options: Spanish, French and Russian. And if you are not happy with the default setting of fractional odds, a toggle is available at the bottom of the page to enable you to switch to either American odds or decimals. There are no other formats available though, such as the various Asian odds layouts.

One minor gripe about the user interface at Unbiet, is the betslip on the desktop version of the site. Although it’s very intuitive and clearly laid out, with three very distinct tabs for singles, multiples and system bets, the way it appears out of nowhere is a little disconcerting. As you add a selection to the slip, it pops up on the right hand side of the screen, covering important information such as the odds.

The more selections you add, the bigger it grows, covering up more and more of the screen. You have to constantly minimise and maximise it as you continue to build your bet. It feels like this could have been integrated better into the page. But the mobile site handles this much better, as it only pops up at the bottom of the screen. As soon as you add a second selection, it automatically minimises, maximising the amount of odds and fixtures information displayed on screen.

Verdict: No major gripes at all, a generally pleasant user experience

Although the Unibet sportsbook site is not likely to revolutionise the sports betting industry, it doesn’t really do much wrong. Things work as intended, it’s quite easy to find the markets you’re looking far and the colour scheme is pleasant enough. A solid all-round experience awaits Unibet users.

Sports Betting Product (8/10)

Although Unibet doesn’t quite match up to the very best sports betting sites in terms of its offering, it’s fair to say that the sportsbook product is well above average. You’ll find many betting operators offering a far inferior product to the one offered by Unibet.

One notable positive about this particular online bookmaker is the odds. Looking at top football matches, for example, they bet to a margin of 104%. This is very competitive. If you take a site like Pinnacle, which is renowned throughout the sports betting world for having the biggest odds, they bet to around 102% on the same markets. So whilst Unibet’s prices are not as big as those found at Pinnacle (and nor is any other bookmaker) they are still pretty generous.

There’s also a pretty good range of betting opportunities to be found on the site. During midweek, over 70,000 football markets were available to choose from. There were roughly 100 tennis fixtures, which is about half that of the biggest operators like 1XBet and Bet365, with around 10 markets available for each match.

Looking at other sports, cricket was pretty much in line with most of the big industry players, with 11 fixtures compared to the 9 found at Bet365, while basketball was disappointing. There were just 9 fixtures available, in comparison to the 114 events at 1XBet.

Additional Features

Unibet has most of the additional touches that you’d expect a major international sports betting site to have, too. The Bet Builder feature lets you combine up to 12 different markets within a single fixture, offering flexibility to punters. While cashout is available on most football markets, whether in-play, pre-match or outright, plus a few other sports like tennis.

Finally, it’s worth pointing out that Unibet has won several awards recently, including the prize for best sports betting operator at the EGR Nordics Awards, which it collected for two consecutive years in 2019 and 2020.

Verdict: An award-winning sports betting product

Sports bettors will not be disappointed with the Unibet product, which is far better than the average bookmaker. With a strong selection of betting opportunities available at all times, especially for football, it’s no surprise to see that Unibet has won awards for its betting site.

Live Betting At Unibet (9/10)

The live betting section stacks up extremely well against the biggest sportsbook operators in the business. Above all, it’s well designed, intuitive and very easy to use. But there’s also a really good amount of betting opportunities available for you to enjoy.

Looking at the range of tennis matches on offer, for instance, each one has up to 40 different markets available. That’s actually better than the majority of bookmakers, with only the likes of Bet365 offering more. It’s a similar story with other sports too, with 20 markets on offer for basketball matches and as many as 33 markets in what is a surprisingly comprehensive table tennis offering!

Other sports available for in-play betting at Unibet include snooker, cricket, baseball, volleyball and, of course, football. There are well over 400 betting opportunities available for the top football matches. Even in the most niche leagues, there were still as many as 20 markets available. Examples include matches taking place in Kazakhstan, Kenya and England’s Professional Development League, which is basically the reserves of the professional football teams. That really illustrates the depth of Unibet’s live football betting product.

Verdict: One of the sports betting industry’s better in-play products

There are very few online sports betting sites which offer a wider variety of in-play betting options than Unibet. The live betting section of the site functions very well and the odds on offer are competitive.

Unibet Live Streaming (9/10)

The range of streams available to Unibet customers is very good indeed. The bookmaker offers more than 40,000 live streams from football’s biggest competitions, including La Liga, Serie A and the Bundesliga.

But that’s not all, as Unibet provides a comprehensive horse racing and greyhound service too, with more than 100,000 live streams every year. Not to mention over 85,000 other streams, from competitions like the NBA, NHL and major tennis tours.

You’ll even find plenty of niche sports streaming at Unibet. The table tennis coverage is very good, as is the volleyball, snooker, darts and baseball streaming.

Verdict: More than 100,000 streams a year, from all kinds of sports

We were slightly surprised by how wide the selection of live streams is at Unibet. Aside from the strong coverage of greyhounds and horses, much loved by UK-based punters, they have all of the major sports covered too. Fans of table tennis will be especially impressed.

Withdrawal Options at Unibet (7/10)

The range of withdrawal methods available at Unibet is pretty solid. However, having praised the popular bookmaker for its deposit limits elsewhere in our Unibet review, we were slightly disappointed to discover that the minimum withdrawal amount for cards is set at £/€15.

What that means is, you could deposit £/€15 to your account, enjoy a winning bet at odds of 2.50 and then not be allowed to withdraw your winnings. That slightly undermines having low deposit limits in the first place.

But having said that, there are no processing fees attached to any withdrawals at Unibet, which is always good to see. Processing times are on the quicker side, when compared with other online sports betting sites and the minimum withdrawal amount for the less common payment methods are only £/€10.

Full details of the possible withdrawal options, plus fees and processing times, are available below.

Available Withdrawal Methods

Payment Option Minimum Withdrawal
Maximum Withdrawal Processing Time Processing Fee
Debit Card
(Visa / Mastercard  Maestro)
£/€15 Unlimited 1 - 3 days None
PayPal £/€10 Unlimited Up to 12 hours None
Skrill £/€10 Unlimited Up to 12 hours None
Neteller £/€10 Unlimited Up to 12 hours None
Bank Transfer £/€10 £/€100,000 1 - 3 days None
Trustly £/€5 £/€50,000 1 day None

Verdict: All of the payment methods that you’d expect to see

Unibet’s selection of withdrawal options is fairly good, with all of the expected boxes ticked. There’s nothing particularly high-tech to be found though, with no mobile payments options or cryptocurrencies available.

Responsible Gambling (9/10)

Unibet quite obviously takes its responsibilities as a sports betting operator very seriously. Its affiliation with some of Europe's biggest gambling integrity groups strengthens what is already a very good reputation as a socially responsible bookmaker.

As you would expect from a member of the IBIA and EGBA, its commitment to socially responsible gaming is a strong one. But Unibet doesn’t just talk a good game on its web pages, the range of problem gambling tools on offer is very good too, as you’ll see further down the page.

Since Unibet holds a license with the UK Gambling Commission, they are obliged to be part of GAMSTOP, the trading name of the UK’s National Online Self Exclusion Scheme. Anyone who registers at GAMSTOP will not only be excluded from playing at Unibet, but every single operator involved in the program.

In addition to GAMSTOP, Unibet also provides links all over the site to various other support groups for problem gamblers. These include GamCare, BeGambleAware, Gambling Therapy and Gamblers Anonymous.

But don’t just take our word for it, regarding how great Unibet’s social responsibility tools are. Their industry peers obviously agree too, since the sportsbook won the award for Socially Responsible Operator of the Year at the 2020 International Gaming Awards.

Problem Gambling Tools

Here is the full range of possible problem gambling tools for players to make use of:

- Gambling profile test. This self-assessment survey is designed to help players who might be worried about their gambling activities. Find out if you’re potentially at risk by answering these nine completely confidential questions.

- Reality Check. Set up a reminder to appear when you have been on the website for a fixed period of time, either 30, 60 or 90 minutes. Information also appears letting you know whether or not you’ve been winning or losing, as well as how much you’ve spent. This helps you to stay focussed on being sensible with your betting.

- Deposit Limit. Players can configure a maximum deposit amount for a period of 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days.

- Block Products. If you enjoy sports betting but struggle with the casino, for example, Unibet allows you to take a break from a specific type of product, rather than implementing a blanket ban across all forms of gambling.

- Take A Break. If you feel that an enforced break from gambling is necessary, but that self-exclusion is too strong, you can take a timeout for up to six weeks. Once configured, you’ll be kicked out of your Unibet account until the time is up.

- Self-Exclusion. As with the majority of online betting sites, if you feel that your gambling is out of control, you can opt to implement a self-exclusion. Choose from a period of between six months and five years to be locked out of your account. Unibet will make every attempt to prevent you from creating a new account, as well as cutting off all marketing activity to your email or telephone number.

Verdict: Unibet’s problem gambling tools are absolutely top-notch

Unibet is a socially responsible sports betting site, with a strong reputation for integrity. As you would therefore expect, the bookmaker offers its players a wide and varied range of support options. These include everything from information about problem gambling, to some of the industry’s best tools to actively block your ability to gamble.

Customer Service (8/10)

An interesting aspect of the customer service found at this particular sports betting site, is the Unibet Community. It’s quite rare for a bookmaker to have a discussion forum where both punters and staff can talk openly about the problems which they might be facing and share possible solutions. This is definitely a positive feature.

Another plus point is that Unibet customer support staff can be contacted 24/7, either via email (at info@unibetsupport.com) or by using Live Chat. However, it is quite hard to gain access to live chat, as it is buried away within a help section which is all geared up towards pointing you to the Unibet Community forums. We feel that it could be made a bit easier, as at times, the impression is given that no live chat exists and that the forums are your only option.

The searchable help section is actually quite useful and should solve a lot of your problems without ever needing to turn to the customer support team. It’s particularly detailed when it comes to deposit and withdrawal information.

Finally, we would have lacked to have seen a telephone number available, so as not to completely alienate the older users of the Unibet sportsbook, as well as a social media option.

Verdict: 24/7 support and a discussion community too

All in all, the Unibet customer service offering is pretty good. There’s a decent range of support channels available and the team can be contacted 24/7. We particularly liked the community idea, so that punters can back each other up to bring problems to the attention of the site’s operators, as well as helping each other out.

Unibet - Final Thoughts (8/10)

Overall, Unibet is an extremely good sports betting site that stacks up well when compared to other leading international bookmakers. It offers a good selection of secure, fast and reliable payment methods, alongside a strong sports betting product, with good in-play and streaming services.

There are very few flaws to be found at the Unibet sportsbook. Although the welcome bonus is a touch disappointing, there are lots of ongoing promotions for existing customers, along with a professional and responsive customer support team. Finally, Unibet has some of the best responsible gambling tools in the industry.

If you’re on the lookout for a new sports betting website, we can highly recommend creating an account at Unibet. We’re sure that you won’t be disappointed with what you find. Join today and collect a £40 risk-free bet.
