BetVictor Review 2022: Bonus, Promotions, Withdrawal

BetVictor is a giant of the sports betting scene. Originally known as Victor Chandler, after the man who opened the company’s first betting shops, the company would become a pioneer of the online betting scene in the UK. Our review of this popular and innovative sportsbook takes a look at every aspect of the site, from the licenses held, promotions on offer and of course, the sports betting products available. Continue reading to discover all you need to know about BetVictor.

Reputation and Credibility (10/10)

The origins of BetVictor go back to 1920s, when Bill Chandler was illegally taking bets at greyhound racing tracks around London. The business that he built, including the purchase of what would become Walthamstow Greyhound Stadium, was passed to his sons upon his death in 1946. It was Victor who picked up the bookmaking side of things.

When betting was legalised in the UK, Victor Chandler set up a string of shops in the south of England, the first of which opened in 1963. When he died in 1974, his son Victor Chandler Jr picked up the reins and it was he who grew the firm to be the giant that it is today. In addition to being one of the first to recognise the importance of online betting, he was also among the early acceptors of high staking foreign clients.

But perhaps most notably of all, Victor Chandler Jr was the first UK bookmaker to move offshore, basing the business in Gibraltar (company registration number 42734) where it remains today, as an employer of more than 400 people. This decision eventually forced the UK government to rethink their policy on betting taxes, scrapping it in 2001.

Chandler eventually stepped down in 2014, two years after the company rebranded from Victor Chandler to BetVictor.

Off the back of this long history of successfully operating a sports betting business, BetVictor currently holds licenses in several major jurisdictions. The main bookmaking licenses are as follows:

- UK Gambling Commission: license number 39576

- Ireland Revenue Commissioners
: license number 1010233

- Gibraltar Gambling Commission: RGL No 001

Verdict: A famous and trustworthy brand, with a strong pedigree

Much like several other high-profile UK betting firms, BetVictor’s origins date back around a century. This is an extremely reputable sports betting company, positively dripping in history, that really knows how to run a gambling business.

Welcome Bonus (8/10)

When you first open your BetVictor account, you’ll be presented with a choice of four different welcome bonuses. This flexibility is a nice touch, allowing players to decide which offer they prefer. Two of the options are targeted at casino players, while the other two are focused on the BetVictor sportsbook.

The two sports betting welcome bonuses are as follows:

- Bet £/€5, Get £/€30 (Sports). New customers who place a bet of at least £/€5, at odds of 2.00 (evens) or more, will earn themselves two free bets worth £/€10, as well as £/€10 worth of credit to use on live casino game shows.

- Bet £/€10, Get £/€40 (Horse Racing). Fans of racing might prefer to place a bet of £/€10 at odds of 2.00 (evens) or more. If so, they’ll pick up a welcome bonus of three free bets worth £/€10, plus a £/€10 live casino game show bonus.

It should be noted that the qualifying bets must be placed within seven days of opening your BetVictor sportsbook account, while the free bets themselves also have a seven day expiry attached. Free bets must be placed at odds of 2.00 (evens) or greater.

Market Comparison

As welcome bonuses go, the BetVictor offer holds up pretty well when compared to other UK sports betting sites. When you consider that companies like Bwin only offer a £/€20 risk-free bet, this particular offer is not only much more generous, but the fact that we can choose our own is also a huge plus point.

At the other end of the scale, you have Bet365 offering £/€100 to new customers, while Paddy Power also trump the BetVictor offer with their £/€50 welcome package. So while this is certainly a good deal, it’s not among the very best offers.

Verdict: Better than the average welcome bonus

When compared to other UK sportsbooks, the BetVictor welcome bonus of £/€30 is about average. But they also provide a range of different offers, which earns them additional brownie points, and one of these is a horse racing specific promotion worth £/€40.

Ongoing Promotions and Offers (7/10)

The selection of promotions for existing BetVictor punters is not the greatest. There are only really three regular offers, which are:

- Best Odds Guaranteed. Like the vast majority of UK sports betting operators, BetVictor ensures that if you take a price on a horse or greyhound in the UK and Ireland, you’ll be paid the higher odds if the Starting Price is bigger.

- Run For Your Money. If your horse blows its chance at the very start of the race and you don’t even get a run for your money, BetVictor will refund you. Not as a free bet either, but in the form of cash.

- BetVictor Loyalty Club. Place five real money bets of £/€5 or more, at minimum odds of 1.50 (1/2) and you’ll receive a £/€5 free bet as a reward.

In addition to the three ongoing promotions, this sports betting site does offer sporadic price boosts and enhanced multiples. They are usually found during special events such as the Olympics, Wimbledon or the World Cup and can be seen towards the top of the relevant section of the site.

However, the problem with these offers is that punters have no say in which selections are enhanced. Since it’s the BetVictor team making the decision, if you don’t think those teams or players will win, the bets have no appeal. Many sites now allow you to decide which selections you’d like to boost, but that is not the case at BetVictor.

Verdict: Some interesting offers, but nothing amazing

BetVictor’s range of ongoing bonuses and promotions are nothing special. These offers are the bare minimum of what UK punters have come to expect today and, while it’s important that they do at least offer some bonuses, we would have hoped to see a few more.

Deposit Options at BetVictor (7/10)

When you visit the cashier for the first time, you’ll be greeted by a pop-up informing you that BetVictor will hold your funds in an “Independent Trust Account” to keep them safe, in the event of insolvency. It also warns us that we may need to verify our identity before attempting a withdrawal. This message is nothing to worry about and is actually quite reassuring.

Once we have acknowledged the notification, we are then prompted to review our responsible gambling limits. It is not compulsory to set a limit, but the option is available should you want to.

To begin with, players in the UK will be limited to debit cards and PayPal. Once you have verified your identity, then other deposit options do become available, including e-wallets like Skrill and Neteller. Full details of the available deposit methods can be found in the table below.

Available Deposit Methods

Payment Option Minimum Deposit Maximum Deposit Processing Time Processing Fee
Debit Card
(Visa / Mastercard / Maestro)
£/€5 £/€1,000 Instant None
FastFunds (Visa Direct ) £/€5 £/€1,000 Instant None
PayPal £/€5 £/€5,500 Instant None
Neteller £/€5 £/€50,000 Instant None
Skrill £/€5 £/€25,000 Instant None
PaySafeCard* £/€5 £/€750 Instant None

* Please note that these options are only available to international customers and not to those players based in the UK.
BetVictor players can choose to make a deposit in any one of ten different currencies: GBP, USD, EUR, CAD, CHF, SEK, NOK, NZD, ZAR and AUD.
Verdict: An average selection of deposit options
There are no exotic options like Bitcoin to be found at BetVictor. They have stuck firmly to the basics when it comes to payment methods, covering everything you’d expect to find, but nothing more. One major plus point however, is the low minimum deposit limit of just £/€5.

User Interface and Experience (8/10)

In our opinion, the BetVictor user experience is pretty good. The site has an attractive colour scheme, is straightforward to navigate and does not bombard the user with clutter and unnecessary features. The look of the mobile site is consistent with that of the desktop and is also straightforward to use.

The bet slip on the BetVictor desktop site is slightly on the large side, with lots of white space. If you pick any more than four selections, you’re going to find yourself scrolling, which is a bit annoying. That said, it’s an easy to use and intuitive bet slip, with a very simple section at the bottom offering players the opportunity to place singles, multiples and combination bets.

Something we always look out for is the ability to toggle between different odds formats. With BetVictor, this option is quite easy to find, within the Settings section of My Account. If you are not a fan of the default fractional odds, which the site refers to as UK Style odds, you may choose between decimal odds (called Euro style odds), US odds,  Indonesian, or Chinese style odds.

Mobile Site and Apps

The native mobile apps offered by BetVictor actually look quite smart. Both iOS and Android apps are available to UK punters, and the design of both is stylish, but not overly-complicated. The sleek design lends itself to faster, more responsive loading times too, making for an enjoyable user interface.

If you prefer not to use a native app, the BetVictor mobile betting site does a more than adequate job of replicating the look and feel of the desktop sportsbook. You can enjoy BetVictor using the browser of your choice on any mobile or tablet device, as the site is fully responsive.

Verdict: One of the better sports betting apps

Although the BetVictor desktop and mobile sites are not exactly works of art, they are not offensive on the eye like some of their competitors. But most importantly, they function very well, with quick loading times, easy navigation and generally providing the user with a good experience. The BetVictor app is arguably the best of any of the UK sports betting companies.

Sports Betting Product (8/10)

At BetVictor, there are more than 30 different sports on which you can bet. As well as the major sports like football, tennis and golf, you’ll find everything from table tennis and darts, to Irish sports such as hurling and Gaelic football. There’s also a small selection of virtual sports, made up of horse racing, greyhounds, football and basketball, as well as novelty events like politics and television.

In terms of the number of markets available, the BetVictor football product is nowhere near the biggest brands. But let’s be honest, it’s still more than adequate. Premier League matches have around 80 different markets to choose from. That should be plenty for the vast majority of punters, even if doesn’t doesn’t match up to the likes of William Hill, who sometimes have as many as 650 different football markets for top fixtures.

For other sports, they are pretty much in line with the top bookmakers. For instance, major basketball fixtures have as many as 34 markets, while there are 23 for tennis and 30 for rugby union. There’s also the Bet Builder feature, which lets players create their own unique bets by selecting up to 7 different markets within the same fixture. That’s not quite as many as some of the competitors, but again, it’s more than sufficient to meet the needs of most punters.

Though BetVictor may not offer as many football markets as some other UK sports betting brands, they make up for it with their highly competitive odds. If you scour the odds comparison sites, you’ll frequently see them offering the best price in the market on football matches.

Finally, the BetVictor racing product is comprehensive, offering the full range of UK and Irish horses, supported by plenty of International racing from the likes of France, Japan, South Africa and the USA. Greyhound racing comes courtesy of the UK, Ireland and Australia.

Verdict: Some of the best football odds in the UK

The BetVictor sports betting product is one the better offerings of any UK bookmaker. While they do not boast the huge number of markets offered by some operators, they do have some of the best football odds, as well as offering a wide range of different sports and a good racing product.

Live Betting At BetVictor (8/10)

BetVictor offers players a good in-play betting service, with all of the sports covered that you would expect, as well as a surprising number of niche sports. Their table tennis coverage, for instance, is excellent and the esports in-play product is good enough to rival most online betting sites.

Sticking to the more traditional live betting sports, like most things that BetVictor does, the in-play product is heavily skewed towards football. Important fixtures such as Champions League games will have in excess of 130 in-play markets to pick from, but even lesser competitions still offer a plentiful supply of betting opportunities.

The number of live betting markets for other sports varies heavily depending on the event, but for the major sports at least, BetVictor holds up extremely well against the competition. There are almost 30 markets in top cricket games, for instance, with over 20 for tennis and more than 40 for basketball. When it comes to smaller events, the number of markets offered tends to be below average, particularly for snooker, baseball and darts.

Verdict: Very good for im-play football and esports

It is no surprise to discover that BetVictor’s live betting product is very good when it comes to football, since this, along with horse racing, is their key market. However, the comprehensive esports offering was a somewhat unexpected bonus.

BetVictor Live Streaming (6/10)

One area where BetVictor is sadly lacking, is when it comes to live streaming. Although the racing coverage is pretty complete, there’s little else on offer besides the odd niche sport like table tennis, and some esports options.

Focusing on the positives though, fans of greyhounds and horse racing will actually get a lot of value out of the BetVictor streaming service. If you have a positive betting balance, or if you have placed any kind of sports bet in the past 24 hours, you can watch any race taking place in the UK or Ireland.

Races from all over the world are covered too, including the USA, South Africa and Dubai. To view these international contests, you just need to place a bet of at least £/€1 on any selection running in the race to access the stream.

Verdict: Extremely basic streaming service

For a sportsbook with the credibility of BetVictor, a company who used to be at the cutting edge of the online betting world, such a lack of streaming options is a huge disappointment. The greyhound and horse racing service is comprehensive, but these sports do not enjoy the same level of popularity as they used to. With no football, tennis, basketball or cricket on offer, punters who like to watch streams are going to be left frustrated.

Withdrawal Options at BetVictor (7/10)

Betvictor’s range of withdrawal methods looks pretty average when compared with other major bookmakers operating in the UK. The minimum deposit of £/€10 seems fair, but nothing special, while all of the obvious boxes are ticked. Processing times and fees are pretty much in line with the market, too.

Available Withdrawal Methods

Payment Option Minimum Withdrawal
Maximum Withdrawal
Processing Time Processing Fee
Debit Card
(Visa / Mastercard / Maestro)
£/€10 £/€50,000 2 - 5 days None
FastFunds (Visa Direct ) £/€10 £/€50,000 4 hours None
PayPal £/€10 £/€5,500 1 day None
Neteller £/€10 £/€50,000 1 - 3 days None
Skrill £/€10 Unlimited 1 - 3 days None
BACS £/€25 Unlimited 1 - 5 days None
International Bank Transfer £/€100 Unlimited 3 - 10 days £/€10 - £/€25 (depending on bank)

Verdict: A solid and unspectacular selection

This is the bare minimum selection of withdrawal options that punters in the UK have come to expect. You can use all of the most common bank cards, the major e-wallets are all present and the limits and processing times are fair. But if you were hoping for cryptocurrency options, or even the likes of Apple Pay and ecoPayz, you’re going to be disappointed.

Responsible Gambling (8/10)

All of the responsible gambling features available at BetVictor can be found in the Safer Gambling Portal, within your account settings. Here you will find helpful advice, as well as a wide range of tools designed to help you prevent your gambling from becoming an issue, including:

- Problem Checklist. This is a short, voluntary self-assessment survey, which will help you find out whether or not you could be susceptible to problem gambling. If you have any concerns, you may consult the Gambling Support section for assistance.

- Deposit Limits. Limits can be configured daily, weekly or monthly, with a range of preset values from £/€0 to £/€40,000. When a higher limit is requested, it will not be enforced for 24 hours, to give you a chance to change your mind.

- Time Out. You may take a temporary break from gambling at BetVictor for up to six weeks. This is not as strict an option as self-exclusion and you will be allowed to return as soon as your time out elapses.

- Product Restriction. If you only struggle with a specific product, you may wish to have your access restricted while continuing to enjoy the other areas of the BetVictor site. You can contact customer services to arrange this.

- Self-Exclusion. If your gambling is getting too far out of control, you may wish to enforce a self-exclusion. Choose a period of time between six months and five years, and BetVictor will restrict access to your account. This is an irreversible decision.

One aspect of BetVictor’s responsible gaming limits that we particularly enjoyed was being prompted to set limits before we attempted to make a real money deposit. Unlike some sites that will allow you to just make deposits, without running you through your player protection options, BetVictor took a proactive approach, insisting that we first take a look at the preset daily, weekly and monthly values.

Sports betting and other gambling operators in the UK must now be part of GAMSTOP, or to give it its full name, the National Online Self Exclusion Scheme. As a fully licensed, socially responsible betting site, BetVictor is of course adhering to this requirement. But in addition to multiple GAMSTOP references spread around the website, there are also plenty of links to other support services too, such as GamCare, Gamble Aware and BetBlocker.

Verdict: A socially responsible sports betting operator

The range of tools to assist problem gamblers is much better than average, but the identity verification process at BetVictor is perhaps not quite as strict as some other operators. They clearly take social responsibility very seriously, and should be commended for that, but we have seen tighter controls and even better tools elsewhere.

Customer Service (9/10)

BetVictor gives customers a brilliant selection of customer support options and every time we’ve had to deal with their agents, we have found them to be helpful, but more importantly, to respond extremely quickly.

You can start by using the Help Centre, which is actually one of the better FAQ sections offered by a UK bookmaker. It’s quite comprehensive and will likely solve your problem, but if not, don’t worry. Support is available 24/7 at BetVictor.

By far the best option is to use the Live Chat option, as they are extremely quick to help out. But if your query is less urgent, there is a contact form on the website, or you can contact from your personal email address to achieve the same result. Then there’s always the social media options; support can be contacted through Twitter or Facebook.

If you’re a little more old-fashioned and would prefer to speak to a human, there’s no need to run up any telephone bills, as you can request a callback during your preferred time slot. Plus, if you’re using the BetVictor mobile site, you can choose “Text Us” for another quick and easy way to get in touch.

Verdict: Plenty of ways to reach a brilliant customer support team

Our experiences with BetVictor support have always been good and we particularly enjoy the wide selection of channels by which they can be reached. The callback option is particularly appreciated, as players of a certain age often feel excluded by modern bookmaking businesses who only offer online options.

BetVictor - Final Thoughts (8/10)

It’s fair to say that the majority of punters using sports betting sites in the UK are looking to bet on football, with an older demographic more interested in racing and a younger, steadily growing core of esports fans. With this in mind, BetVictor seems to have their strategy just right, since in these three areas, they are exceptionally strong. There’s a wide range of markets on offer, with some of the most competitive odds in the market.

The user interface is intuitive and responsive, while the BetVictor app is one of the best offered by a UK sports betting site. Customer service is good, they offer a decent number of different payment methods and they take social responsibility seriously.

The only area where BetVictor really lacks, is that of streaming. If you are not a fan of horse racing or esports, there isn’t much to choose from in this regard. But putting the live streams aside, we struggle to find much else that is wrong with this highly reputable online bookmaker.
We particularly recommend BetVictor to lovers of esports, football and horse racing. Why not sign up today and take advantage of the welcome bonus, worth up to £/€40?
