Baeza could be an unlikely hero, but he hasn’t shown enough promise to be favored by many bookmakers. Trainer John Shirreffs also chose to withdraw Baeza from the Preakness after the horse finished third in the Kentucky Derby behind Journalism and Sovereignty. Before then, it raced in the Santa Anita Derby, where it placed second behind Sovereignty, so it’s unlikely it’ll pull ahead of William Mott’s horse next month.
