About Mexico Liga de Ascenso

La Liga de Ascenso is the second championship division in Mexican football forming part of the Mexican Football League. This championship has been established in 1994 when it was intended to create a Premier League and the Mexican Second Division changed it’s name to Primera A.

In 2009 it changed it’s name again being called Liga de Ascenso, name with which it is known since the Torneo Apertura 2009. There are two championships played per year. In each championship, seven teams get qualified to the Liguilla. The Liguilla is played with home and away system. The stages are quarter finals, semi finals and the final.

Relegation and Promotion is every two championships counting the percentage of games won and played during the last six championships. For being able to be promoted to the First Division a team needs to win one of the championships of the year and play a final against the other winner, or, it can win both championships and get automatically promoted to the First Division.
